Seattle Neighborhood Greenways
Seattle, WA
After a year-long sabbatical in Sweden, Cathy Tuttle, who has a PhD Urban Design & Planning, returned inspired to advocate for safer streets for everyone. She started and now directs Seattle Neighborhood Greenways, a coalition of 20 safe streets neighborhood advocacy groups in Seattle. The Seattle Greenways coalition has been instrumental in launching Seattle’s Vision Zero movement, supporting corridor safety projects across the city, and getting out the vote for the recently approved Move Seattle levy, a ten year, $930 million package that will improve transportation options citywide. Greenways’ model of Memorial Walks and Solutions Meetings that turns tragedy into action has been successfully implemented around the country and Tuttle and Greg Raisman from Portland Bureau of Transportation were recently honored by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) as the national recipients of their Lifesavers Public Service Award for their work on Neighborhood Greenways and Vision Zero.
